So keep reading this post all about what not to do with crystals and the five most important things you need to know.
5 Important Things You Need To Know
1. Do Not Put Your THEM In Water
The first important thing to know is that you should not soak your crystals in water, regular or salt. If you are a beginner on how to use crystals and work with them, a great book for beginners is Crystals For Beginners by Karen Frazier. This is a great foundational book to have in your library.
Water can be damaging to certain crystals and if you are new to working with them you might not realize which crystals will be fine and which may be damaged so it is best to avoid water altogether. The method I prefer when cleaning crystals is using sound to cleanse them.
So I bring out my singing bowl, place the crystals in the bowl and strike the bowl five times. Five is the number that I use but you can do this any amount of times that feels right for you. If you don’t have any bowls you can always use your voice.
You can hold the crystals in between the palms of your hands and hum, or sing, over them focusing on your intention. This is not about having a great singing voice or hitting the right note. This is about using your voice and energetic vibration to cleanse your crystal.
You are never without a way to cleanse your crystals when you have your voice. People often think they have to run out and buy something but the best instrument to use if often you. Your body is a ball of vibrant energy and by focusing and using your voice you can use it to cleanse your crystals.
2. DON’T GET CARRIED AWAY BUYING CRYSTALS
When we first discover crystals it can be very exciting! They are very pretty so who wouldn’t want to buy them all and take them home?! But that is not the wisest thing to do for them or you.
The best way to purchase crystals is think about your needs or a current situation you are challenged with in your life. Focus and feel into what you need and allow this to guide what you purchase. This is how you will connect to the ones that will be most supportive of you in your situation.
For example, I went through a breakup and was guided by spirit to a section of the book Crystals For Beginners by Karen Frazier that dealt with grief. The recommended stone was Apaches Tears. I went to my local metaphysical store and found this stone. I purchased three small stones to do the necessary work that I needed to do.
That’s it! I just purchased those three. No more! I didn’t go on a buying spree. I bought what I needed to focus on my intention and the issue at hand. And I used it as recommended to help me work through this issue. Which leads to point number three…
3. DON’T LET YOUR CRYSTALS COLLECT DUST
Don’t let your crystals collect dust. Use them. They are mineral beings with their own energetic signature. They are here to support and uplift you when you need them. So buying them and letting them collect dust defeats their purposes.
Don’t just buy them because they are pretty to look at. Use them and allow them to provide the healing support they can give you. That’s why it was recommended that you only buy what you need and are going to actually use.
As you use them your energies become entwined and they can do what they are supposed to do which is uplift your energetic signature and vibration. Above I shared about how Apaches Tears supported me during a breakup. I truly feel that this stone helped to provide me the energetic support I needed to move through a difficult situation with more ease and in the best way possible.
So find the crystals that are most supportive to you and use them!
4. DON’T LET OTHER PEOPLE TOUCH YOUR CRYSTALS
There seems to be some difference of opinion about whether it’s okay for other people to touch your crystals. Some people say don’t do it. Others say it’s fine because once you have charged your crystal with your intent another person’s energy will not change that intent.
Here’s where I fall on the issue and what I recommend: Do not let other people touch your crystals.
The reason for this is that everyone has a unique energy signature and though you may have charged your crystals and set an intentions for their use, they shouldn’t have even the slightest trace of anyone else’s energy on them. As you work with your crystals they become one of your spiritual tools and when it comes to having spiritual tools you cannot let anyone have access to them. They are for you.
This is how you do your work whether personally or perhaps with others. The crystals need to only be associated with you and your energy signature and no one else’s. Most spiritualists and those who work with stones feel very strongly about this. Personally I am very sensitive to energy and don’t want anyone else’s energy on my stuff!
5. DON’T LEAVE YOUR CRYSTALS IN THE SUN
Until I was doing a bit of research for this article I wasn’t aware that folks were really doing this.
Crystal charging is definitely associated with moonlight and I assumed that others used it this way too. But clearly folks are leaving their crystals in the sun which I sort of understand. The crystals are beautiful. The sun is beautiful. Crystals look beautiful in the sun light. So I get it.
BUT crystals should not be in the sun for extended lengths of time because it could damage their coloring possibly fading them. Think of it kind of like getting a sun burn. Your crystals can have their exterior damaged by the strength of the sun. It could damage their coloring or the stone is some way.
So if you want to have them be in a sun a little bit keep it down to less than thirty minutes or so, avoiding direct sunlight and don’t make it a habit. Remember crystals are made for the moonlight and the moon loves them.
BONUS TIP: BE PATIENT WORKING WITH CRYSTALS
When working with crystals don’t expect changes overnight. Working with them is a slow gradual process so have patience. There is nothing magical about working with them in my opinion. They have energetic properties. You have energetic properties. Their energy needs time to support your energy and they need time to do their thing.
The process and changes will be very gradual and subtle. So at first you might not notice a difference. Give it time and then in a few weeks or months think back to when you first bought the crystal and started using it and reflect on any improvements you notice now.
All change takes time and working with crystals is no different. People become impatient and in their impatience they assume that it’s not working. On the contrary it probably is working, and depending on the issue it is supporting you with, it just is taking time.
Working with crystals does not require blind belief just some patience in order to feel and notice an energetic shift.
